Abstract

The distribution of coccoliths has been examined in 20 surface-sediment samples along an east-west transect in the Norwegian Sea. Based on the abundance and species-richness of coccoliths, three biogeographic zones have been established along this transect. The distribution of coccolith assemblages in the surface sediments appears to match closely with the locations of the different surface water masses in the Norwegian-Greenland Sea.
