Abstract
Electron microprobe analyses are presented for coexisting biotite, hornblende, ilmenite, magnetite, and plagioclase from metamorphic amphibolite gabbro, amphibolite, and gneiss. Among biotite and hornblende a regular partition of total Al was observed. The distribution of Mg/Fe is a function of the relative concentration of tetrahedral Al in the two minerals. The irregular distribution observed for most other elements is suggestive of disequilibrium conditions.
