Abstract

1. 1. The distribution of some kinetic factors of serine dehydratase, serineipyruvate transaminase and serine hydroxymethyltransferase were investigated in rainbow trout tissues. 2. 2. The results suggest that serine catabolism occurs through the action of both the transminase and the hydroxymethyltransferase, the dehydratase being relatively unimportant. 3. 3. The highest enzyme levels are found in the liver in which the transaminase is mitochondrial and the hydroxymethyltransferase cytosolic. 4. 4. The apparent K m for serine of the hydroxymethyltransferase in 0.12 mM; of the transaminase is 8 mM; of the dehydratase in 44 mM.
