Abstract

Abstract 1. 1. Malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.37) has been estimated in the supernatant, mitochondria and cytosol fractions of brain, heart, liver and muscle from rainbow trout at five different age groups from 6 months to 3 yr. 2. 2. The enzyme activity was highest in the muscle and lowest in the brain in all age groups. 3. 3. The levels of MDH and the ratio of MDH activity in mitochondria/cytosol indicate that in rainbow trout the muscle and liver is most active in lipogenesis and the brain in gluconeogenesis. 4. 4. It appears from these results that in rainbow trout lipogenesis is greatly increased at 12 months, decreases at 18 months and stays within the same range with some fluctuations but increases slightly after 2 yr of age.
