Abstract

This study investigates the distribution of management traits, such as calving ease, maternal calving ease, productive life, and daughter pregnancy rate of Holstein and Jersey dairy bulls provided by semen companies in Brazil. Data from 392 Holstein and 92 Jersey bulls were located in the websites of these companies, and their proofs were found in the American April 2008 database. A test of normality and descriptive statistics for all traits were performed. Average values were favorable for all traits. Therefore, the bulls available during the research period fit standard recommendations for these traits. However, the monitoring of bull proofs is necessary and the use of bulls that lack such standards should be avoided in order to prevent unfavorable effects on the productivity of dairy cattle.
