Abstract
Abstract In this paper, the issues of slope stability in the open-pit mining of mineral deposits are considered if the slope is composed of a block structure of an array of rocks. The block structure is usually characteristic of upland quarries. It has been established that the presence of crack systems in the side massif forms a block structure and leads to disjunctive disturbances with loss of stability of individual blocks and it is not possible to calculate the stability of such a rock mass using methods for an isotropic massif. In this regard, the authors carried out work on the study of a blocky rock mass and conducted laboratory studies. The paper presents the results of field observations of the study of the mechanism of destruction of such a rock mass structure and the results of laboratory tests of the shear resistance of a separate block depending on the thickness, humidity between the block filler and the shear angle.
