Abstract

This case study explores the intricacies of technology overuse in the workplace, exemplified by an employee, Reshma, who shows signs of excessive dependency on her smartwatch. Through her narrative, we delve into the potential implications of technology overreliance and its correlation with instant gratification theory and reward deficiency syndrome (RDS), a condition characterized by an insatiable need for dopamine-driven gratification. The study underscores the impact of these dynamics on productivity, the quality of work, and overall employee well-being. This case provides significant insights for HR professionals navigating the evolving landscape of digital dependency in the contemporary workplace and underlines the importance of fostering a balanced and productive work environment in the age of relentless digital connectivity.
