Abstract

A displacement sensor with a hollow metal optical waveguide and a flat mirror is investigated. The sensor utilizes the principle of different attenuation for low and higher order light modes propagated in a hollow metal waveguide. The sensor has high sensitivity for small displacements, a broad measurement range, a one-side optoelectronic device location, and simple and inexpensive design.
