Abstract

(1+1 ′) resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) and dispersive photoelectron (PE) spectrometry have been used to identify the ionic cores associated with ungerade Xe 2 Rydberg states dissociating to Xe( 1 S 0)+( Xe * 6 p[1/2] 0, Xe * 5 d[5/2] 3 0 , and Xe *[3/2] 1 0). Several features in the PE spectra were also found to originate from the ionization of excited Xe atom terms produced by molecular predissociation. These results support a previous REMPI / time-of-flight mass spectrometry study on the excited states considered here, and confirm predictions made from angular momentum arguments.
