The proposed operators, with enhanced dispersion properties, have the same stencil as the conventional finite difference method. Numerical tests on the 2‐D scalar wave equation show that 3 grid points at the Nyquist frequency are adequate for the forward modeling problem with the new derived 5‐point finite difference operator.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.2148046FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByDispersion‐relationship‐preserving seismic modelling using the cross‐rhombus stencil with the finite‐difference coefficients solved by an over‐determined linear system21 May 2020 | Geophysical Prospecting, Vol. 68, No. 6Determining finite difference weights for the acoustic wave equation by a new dispersion-relationship-preserving method2 October 2014 | Geophysical Prospecting, Vol. 63, No. 1Dispersion reducing finite difference coefficients for marine controlled source electromagnetic applicationDamir Pasalic, Michal Okoniewski, and Ray McGarry25 October 2012Fast seismic modeling and reverse time migration on a graphics processing unit cluster7 October 2011 | Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Vol. 24, No. 7Anisotropic elastic modeling on a Lebedev grid: Dispersion reduction and grid decouplingRay McGarry, Damir Pasalic, and Cen Ong25 May 2012A discontinuous mesh finite difference scheme for acoustic wave equationsDamir Pasalic and Ray McGarry21 October 2010Fast seismic modeling and Reverse Time Migration on a GPU clusterAn optimized staggered variable-grid finite-difference scheme and its application in cross-well acoustic survey26 March 2008 | Science Bulletin, Vol. 53, No. 6Computational strategies for reverse‐time migrationEric Dussaud, William W.
