Abstract

In this work, we study the guided wave in waveguides composed of two kinds of single-negative metamaterials. Because of the boundary condition, negative refraction of energy flow will take place at the interface of two kinds of single-negative metamaterials. The direction of group velocity is determined by the net energy flow after the compensation effect of two parts of energy flow on both sides of the interface. So, once the net energy flow is near zero, the dispersion curve is flat and the group velocity of the wave is near zero. This dispersionless slow wave may be used in signal processing and optical storage applications.
