Abstract

AbstractThe dispersion relation for surface plasmon—surface optical phonon coupled waves is derived in nonretardation limit, using a hydrodynamical model, for thin semi‐infinite plane bounded polar semiconductor films. Due to coupling between the surface plasmons and surface optical phonons at the two surfaces of the film, it gives rise to four surface modes. Under certain conditions the dispersion relation can also describe the surface plasmon oscillations in metallic foils.
