Abstract

The dispersion of acoustic phonons in direction of the threefold axis has been determined by inelastic neutron scattering. The cutoff frequencies obtained are 5.9±0.2 THz for the two degenerate transverse branches and 9.8±0.3 THz for the longitudinal branch. Dispersion effects seem to be negligible up to 5 THz for all acoustic phonons with wave vector along the threefold axis.
