Abstract

Kriebel (1964), Rudinger (1964, 1969), and Hamed and Frohn (1980) have studied the structure of fully dispersed shock waves in dusty gases. Particle volumes have not been included in any of these investigations. The present study represents an attempt to obtain the structure of dispersed shock waves by including the particle volume effect. The effects of the drag and heat-transfer coefficients on the structure of dispersed shock waves have also been determined. Following Kriebel's approach, the modified flow equations including the particle volume effect are presented. In the analysis of dispersed shock waves, Rudinger's method is utilized, while numerical calculations are conducted to obtain the velocity and temperature distribution for the gas and particles in an air-silica mixture. 5 references.
