Abstract

Dislocation generation and propagation in [001] oriented Czochralski Alexandrite (BeAl 2O 4:Cr) single crystals have been investigated by X-ray transmission topography. The grown-in dislocations originate mainly from those which were already present in the seed and nucleated at the seed-crystal interface. They propagate along the paths normal or nearly normal to the local growth interface. The Burgers vector for these dislocations was determined to be parallel to the [100] direction.
