Abstract

Based on the criteria of geology-landform, climate-hydrology, ecology-biogeography, and land - sea interaction relationship, the Vietnamese coastal zone was divided into 3 coastal subzones consisting of 5 coastal regions and 11 coastal sections. The North subzone from Mong Cai to Hai Van cap is the place where interaction between the land of the Northern Vietnam with tropical monsoon and cold winter, and the marine part of North zone in the East Sea (South China Sea) with tropical monsoon happens. The transitional subzone, from Hai Van cap to Dai Lanh cap is the place where interaction between the land of Southern Vietnam with sub-equatorial monsoon and year-round warmth, and the marine part of North zone in the East Sea with tropical monsoon occurs. The South subzone, from Dai Lanh cap to Ha Tien is the place where interaction between the land of Southern Vietnam with sub-equatorial monsoon, and the marine part of South zone in the East Sea with sub-equatorial monsoon occurs.
