Abstract
The authors are commended for developing a generalized subroutine that can be used to compute the normal and critical flow depths for all types of natural and constructed channel shapes. As an alternative, the normal and critical flow depths for the triangular, trapezoidal, parabolic, and circular channels can be determined by using Excel. The procedure is described in Wong and Zhou 2004 . With this method, no need exists to assume a starting flow depth. Further, the flow depths for the triangular and trapezoidal channels with unequal side slopes can also be determined.
