Abstract
Induction motor (IM) drives are widely used in power conversion applications; for accurate dynamics, it is typical to use synchronous reference frame current control. The most common structure uses d-q axes PI controllers in conjunction with a decoupling voltage compensator. This paper presents an alternative scheme: first, discrete-time sliding mode controllers are used instead of PIs; second, the decoupling voltages are obtained using a sliding mode observer. The resulting structure is a theoretically optimal controller in terms of response time. Another advantage is that the motor speed is not needed in the generation of the decoupling voltages. The paper shows simulations and implementation results.
