Abstract
(Int J Gynaecol Obstet. 2021;155:170–178) A negative stigma surrounds substance use in pregnancy and can lead to suboptimal care of parturient women from providers. Indigenous women in Northern British Columbia (BC) have preexisting risk such as generational abuse, racism, and systemic trauma that contribute to increase risk of substance use in pregnancy, putting an already underserved population at greater risk for adverse outcomes. The aim of this study was to discuss substance use in pregnancy from the patient and provider perspective to increase understanding and bridge the gap between patients and providers.
