Abstract

Pancreatic proteins labelled with radioactive amino acids were injected into the blood circulation of normal rats. The half time of pancreatic protein disappearance was 17 min. The half time for disappearance of isotopically labelled amino acids was 4.6 min. During in vitro incubation for 60 min, the pancreatic proteins were not decomposed in the absence or presence of either serum or blood. The liver appears to play a role in removal of pancreatic proteins from the circulation, since in rats with a ‘liver-shunt’, the rate of removal decreased.
