Abstract

By means of high frequency titration, the “effects of conductivity” for the intermediates of electrophilic addition of bromine to olefinic compounds in polar solvents and solvent mixtures have been determined. The change of conductivity depends on solvation by the different solvents. The results characterize the intermediate of the reaction as an equilibrium between ion pairs and self-solvated ions.
