Abstract

Pantograph arcing can create many types of prob- lems to railways, inclusing EMC issues. In the present work we propose a direction finding technique aiming at the localization of the arcing event with low computational load. This technique is based on the estimation of the ratio of magnitude or absolute value of the Poynting vector components. In case of pantograph arcing it can be applied after measuring only two magnetic field components, and therefore it is expected to be independent on weather conditions.
