Abstract

A method of the direction finding of auroral kilometric radiation (AKR) sources from board of a spinning spacecraft is presented. It uses relative power densities of radiation received on three orthogonal antennas with the assumption that the AKR is circularly polarized. The method is checked for a case of AKR source location provided by Polrad radio‐spectro‐polarimeter on board the Interball‐2 satellite. Projection of the source location along magnetic field lines coincides with the active auroral arc observed by the Polar UV imager.
