Abstract

Abstract A general model of cable dynamics is used to analyze the vibration of transmission lines equipped with the control device – detuning pendulums. The model considers complex loading, including nonlinear aerodynamic force and concentrated load. An early developed perturbation method, called direct perturbation method (DPM), is applied to study cable motion. This approach does not need to transform the original partial differential equation to an ordinary differential equation, and the solution procedure is systematic. Steady-state solutions and stability conditions are briefly discussed.
