Abstract
This paper presents the architecture of the direct display interface including video post-processing which is dedicated for a programmable multimedia platform for video enhancement of 8K (7680×4320) UHD (Ultra High Definition) TV at 60 frames per second. The proposed direct display interface obtains large quantities of data from 4 clusters of the reconfigurable processors simultaneously, and transfers the UHD video streams to an external system after performing video post-processing such as color space conversion, black level management, contrast enhancement, and gamma correction. 8K UHD is a video format with spatial resolution 7680×4320 of 12-bit pixels which has 24 times as many data as current FHD (1920×1080) of 8-bit pixels. In order to process massive data of 8K UHD at 60 frames per second, it requires significant computational power and large memory bandwidth. We propose the direct display interface including video post-processing to alleviate memory traffic over the bus and relieve the computational burdens from the reconfigurable processors in the programmable multimedia platform for 8K UHD TV.
