Abstract

An X-ray fluorescence method for the direct determination of Zn, Zr and U in thoria at trace levels has been developed. Thoria samples are mixed with boric acid binder and double-layer pellets are prepared. Instrumental parameters are selected to minimise interferences and to get optimum peak/background ratio. The detection limits for Zn, Zr and U are 10, 100 and 50 ppm with average precision of 8, 16 and 14%, respectively.
