Abstract

Images of photons emitted in a scintillator block were recorded directly with an optical lens system and readout optoelectronics comprising image intensifiers and a CCD camera. The viewed area of the scintillator block was 28×27 mm 2. The performance of the system was studied by detecting tracks of cosmic rays and an electron beam. For a CsI(TI) crystal and a plastic scintillator block, the linear densities of light spots along the track were 1.34±0.07 and 0.19±0.02 mm −1 . When the irradiated depth of the blocks was limited to 20 mm, the spatial resolutions of the spot obtained for these cases were 0.65±0.08 and 0.47±0.05 mm , respectively.
