Abstract

Dioctophimosis is a pathology caused by the worm Dioctophyme renale, mainly affecting dogs but can occur in all mammals. The diagnosis and treatment of a one and a half year old female dog presenting hematuria was carried out at the Uniritter Veterinary Medical Complex. For the diagnosis, blood collection, total abdominal ultrasound were performed, which revealed the parasite and a qualitative urine test that showed hematuria, proteinuria, presence of leukocytes, erythrocytes, transitional epithelial cells, bacteria and parasite eggs. The treatment instituted was surgical removal (nephrectomy), which was effective and brought about the patient's recovery.
