Abstract

In the present study we propose to make a retrospective on the appearance of Bessarabia as a historical-geographical entity, on the approach and perception of this horonym as a distinct space in relation to Wallachia and Moldova in the works of Dimitrie Cantemir. The prince comes with the geographical and cartographic description of this territory, called by the Romanians "Bessarabia", and by the Turks and Tatars "Bugeac", the administrative structure, the ethno-demographic evolution during several centuries, both before and after the annexation to the Ottoman Empire, from which emerges the idea of continuity and resistance of the Romanian population in these lands
