Abstract

Unlike most studies designed to identify dimensions of romantic love, manifestations of romantic love were derived from the subjects rather than from ad hoc considerations by the researchers. In a three-stage process, (a) items were obtained from subjects to form a preliminary scale, (b) a factor analysis of those items led to a revision of the scale, and (c) a readministration to a similar group followed by another factor analysis produced the third and final form of the scale. The final scale had five factors measured by ten items each: Togetherness, Expressions, Concern and Communication, Romancing, and Sensitivity and Spontaneity. No significant differences were found for either marital status or gender; however, significant differences were found among the means of the five factor scales.
