Abstract

This article exposes the potential of reverse engineering applied to the food industry within the framework of Industry 4.0. The development of new competitive products is often complex, so the application of elements and support tools helps to optimize the work procedure. Thus, the possibility of applying 3D scanning from the early phases of product development allows decisions to be made that result in the creation and development of more efficient and therefore more competitive products where the application of reverse engineering systems for generation of prototypes using CAD models helps to accelerate the design process and improve the quality of the products. In this sense, digitalization and industry 4.0 concepts not only affect the mechanical industry, but can also be extended to other fields, such as the food industry. This work aims to generate, analyze and evaluate packaging designs adapted to vegetables and fruits in a context of personalization towards a more demanding consumer that demands greater safety, protection and conservation of fresh produce. Keywords: Reverse engineering, scanning 3D, industry 4.0, food industry, product design.
