Abstract

Porous materials have found widespread industrial application. The efficiency of their technical use is intimately connected with their transport properties. Pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR) is especially a suitable technique for studying different regimes of molecular propagation in porous materials. Among them, the regimes of intracrystalline diffusion and of long–range (intraparticle) diffusion in microporous zeolites, of multiphase diffusion in mesoporous host materials, and of restricted diffusion in macroporous systems as probed with the help of this technique are discussed. These selected examples demonstrate that PFG NMR is able to provide key information about various phenomena occurring in confined fluids.
