Abstract

Three years' measurements of diffuse radiation in southern Israel are presented and compared with total (global) radiation values for the same station. The results, experessed as a fraction of total radiation, are compared with those from other stations in the region and also with local measurements of cloudiness index hours of bright sunshine and observations of amount of cloud cover. The latter relationships are compared with those obtained elsewhere in order to justify their further use in the region when direct measurements are not available and also to investigate the relative importance of cloud and other atmospheric constituents in scattering direct solar-beam radiation.
