Abstract
The problem of the state of stress around an elliptical cavity in an unbounded medium under the effect of a shear wave is reduced to the determination of unknown constants involving the application of the apparatus of Mathieu functions. The numerical investigation is carried out for different frequencies, angles of incidence of the shear wave, and ratios of the axes of the ellipse.
