Abstract

The Navstar GPS is considerably more accurate than most other radio navigation systems. But, even with P-code precision, its pseudo-ranging solutions do not offer sufficient accuracy for some demanding applications, such as carrier landing operations and maritime navigation in inland water- ways and constricted harbors. Fortunately, a number of large research groups, including the United States Coast Guard, are attempting to perfect differential navigation to enhance the system’s accuracy for these and many other equally demanding applications.
