Abstract
An anomalous behavior was found in the electrical mobilities of C60 negative ions in He, Ne, and Ar gas measured using a differential mobility analyzer (DMA). The measured inverse mobilities were larger than those calculated with a hard-sphere collision model. We suggested that this anomalous behavior could be ascribed to the potential force of interactions between the C60 negative ion and the gas molecule. Additionally, a method of ab initio calculation of potential energies between the C60 negative ion and the sheath gas molecule was developed, to quantitatively understand the anomalous behavior.
