Abstract
Obstructive esophageal pathology is often seen in veterinary practice, both in cats and dogs. In many cases, it is caused by foreign bodies, but the oncological neoplasia is not excluded, caused by either intra- or extraluminal formations, strictures, stenosis or parasite cysts. The stages of a certain diagnosis are represented by the time between the moment when the esophageal swallowing impairment appears and the moment when the medical evaluation is taken. According to the patient’s health status, the clinical and paraclinical investigations results, but also to radiological investigations with un uncertain diagnosis which do not explain the patient’s disease status, the endoscopic examination must be taken. The histopathological examination is performed for detecting profound lesions. Symptomatic treatment is given to the patient according to the obstruction grade and type, until the histopathological result. All these stages imply a differential diagnosis, by excluding the pathologies with common signs.
