Abstract

In this paper, a low-complexity two-dimensional central direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for single incoherently distributed source is presented with a uniform circular array. Based on the difference phase property of strictly upper triangle elements in the noise-free covariance matrix, the central azimuth and elevation DOAs are estimated in closed form from a least-squared problem. Without any spectrum searching and eigenvalue decomposition of the sample covariance matrix, the proposed algorithm is computationally simpler than the conventional algorithms. Moreover, computer simulations show that it can achieve better estimation performance.
