Abstract

The Report on Heavy‐oil Engine Working Costs and Performance for 1957/58 was presented at a meeting of the Diesel Engineers and Users Association in London on December 18th. It is noted particularly that the trend towards the use of H.D. detergent oils on heavy‐oil engines is still increasing. The reports are divided into three classes, (1) 45 Electricity Generating Stations in Great Britain. (2) 37 Electricity Generating Stations Abroad. (3) 26 Water Pumping Stations in Britain. Of the 45 generating stations in Britain 27 are using H.D. oil and most of these use it on all their engines. Overseas, 18 stations out of 37 are similarly using H.D. grades. The use of these oils by pumping stations, however, is not so progressive, only 5 out of the 26 use them. The respective total figures for the use of H.D. oils, grades containing anti‐oxidants (A.O.) and straight mineral (S.M.) grades by reporting Members are as follows :—
