Abstract

AbstractThe dielectric relaxation of poly(phenyl methacrylate) and of poly(o‐, m‐, and p‐tolyl methacrylate)s was studied over a wide frequency and temperature range. These samples show three relaxation processes termed α, β, and γ within the temperature ranges 130 to 160°C, 50 to 120°C, and −60 to −20°C, respectively. The α‐ and β‐processes are attributed to the micro‐Brownian motion of the main chain and of the entire side chain, respectively. The γ‐process is suggested to be associated with the relaxation of the tolyl group at the end of the side chain.
