Abstract

The dielectric properties of radio frequency plasma polymerized Furan film capacitors were determined in the frequency range 1 kHz–1 MHz at various temperatures in the range 303–423 K. The dielectric constant was found to increase with the increase in the film thickness. The large increase in capacitance towards the low frequency region indicates the possibility of an interfacial polarization mechanism prevailing in that region. From the experimental results, the dielectric constant and its variation with frequency and temperature, the low dielectric losses and the stability of the films, shows that, plasma polymerized Furan film is a very good dielectric material for the fabrication of high voltage capacitors in the audio frequency region.
