Abstract

AbstractThe longitudinal dielectric function ϵ(q,ω) of beryllium is calculated using realistic wave functions and band energies. Comparison with experiment is performed in the optical properties (including anisotropy), plasmon dispersion relation, and half width of the plasmon peak. The relaxation times for inclusion of damping are fitted. The experimentally observed peak splitting of the loss function is explained as a band structure effect.
