Abstract

30 NaF-10 SrO – (60-x) B2O3: x V2O5 (with x ranging from 0 to 0.5 mol %) glasses are prepared. Dielectric studies such as dielectric constant ϵ', loss tan δ, conductivity σac etc in the frequency range 1 kHz to 500 kHz (at 4 spot frequencies) in the temperature range 30 to 300 °C and spectroscopic properties like IR & ESR etc. were carried out on these samples. The observations on these glasses show that when V2O5 is present in the lower concentration i.e. ≤ 0.3 mol % the vanadium ions exist in VO2+ state that take modifier positions and weaken the glass network; beyond this concentration part of the vanadium ions exist in V5+ state that take network forming positions and strengthen the structure of the glass matrix.
