Abstract

Abstract The permittivity and dielectric loss of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol and trifluoroacetic acid have been measured in benzene solutions at three microwave frequencies, 24.01, 9.83, and 6.01 GHz and also at 1 MHz and optical frequency at 35 °C. The permittivity and dielectric loss at different frequencies have been plotted against concentration (wt. fraction). The slopes of these straight lines have been used for the complex plane plots (a′ vs. a″). The complex plane plots for 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol and trifluoroacetic acid are of the Cole-Cole type. The relaxation time (τ0) and distribution parameter (α) have been calculated. The values of dipole moments (μ) of these compounds have also been calculated and reported, The relaxation mechanism in these two compounds has been explained.
