Abstract

Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) was produced by a piezoelectric transformer (PT) in molecular and noble gases, such as O/sub 2/, Air, N/sub 2/, He, Xe, mixture of He-Xe (10.4%) and Ne. Images of the light patterns of the DBD were captured by a single reflex camera through a glass plate (dielectric layer) covered with indium tin oxide (ITO) thin-film. Filamentary and diffused micro discharges are observed, which depend upon the kind of gases, gas mixtures, temperature, and humidity of the gases. The discharge regions are extended by the increase in the applied voltage. In this paper, the images of the light patterns of the DBD generated by the PT are introduced.
