Abstract

Oviposition in and near forest by Toxorhynchites moctezuma was studied in Trinidad by collecting newly laid eggs from artificial containers (traps) at hourly intervals during seventeen 24-h periods. Oviposition in traps occurred only between noon and sunset and showed a well-defined diel peak, such that >68% of eggs were laid 8–10 h after sunrise. Most females ovipositing in traps laid only 1 egg in any 1 container during an hour.
