Abstract
The elder in the governing bodies of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk The purpose of this article is to discuss the threat to the body of elders, as the prime governing ministery, from both the ministers and the deaconate in the different governing bodies of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk. This is done in view of the decision of the General Synod in 1989 to reformulate, rearrange and, if necessary, adapt the Church order.

INLEIDING Die opdrag van die Algemene Kerkvergadering in 1989 (Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika = NHKA 1989b:274) tot herformulering, herrangskikking en aanpassing indien nodig van die Kerkwet en Bepalings (NHKA 1989a), noodsaak dat, onder andere, opnuut navorsing gedoen sal word oor die amp in die algemeen, die ouderling in die besonder en dan veral ook die posisie van die ouderling ten opsigte van die regeervergaderings
Summary
Prof P J T Koekemoer het in sy veertig jaar as dienaar van die Woord in die Neder duitsch Hervormde Kerk, baie groot liefde en lojaliteit teenoor die kerk of>enbaar. Uit hierdie paragraaf is dit wel duidelik dat die ouderlinge in die verlede baie meer gedoen het as wat onder ‘norm ale’ omstandighede van ’n ouderling verwag kan word.
