Abstract
The paper deals with a programmatic hermeneutical article by the Zurich theologian Ger-hard Ebeling written 1950 about the significance of the critical-historical method for church and theology in Protestantism. Entering a dialogue with Ebeling a view is taken on some aspects of the relevance of historical criticism in recent exegesis.
