Abstract
A 52‐year‐old Black man submitted an application for the open position of assistant chief of police at Austin Peay State University. Shortly before he applied, the university modified the qualifications for the position to reduce a previous requirement of five years of experience in university law enforcement. The applicant claimed the university modified the requirement to enable an internal (white) female candidate to qualify for the position. The university ultimately hired the female candidate — despite the applicant's alleged superior qualifications.
