Abstract

Dialysis treatment has negative effects on the psychological condition of some patients, mainly in case of depressivity. The expectance of receiving a living kidney donation could change the state of the patient. The question arised whether the psychological condition of both the dialysis patient and the living donor changes in the preparation period of transplantation. For this purpose, 119 donor-recipient pairs were interviewed whilst a psychological appraisal. This sample was compared with a group of 128 dialysis patients waiting for transplantion. The comparison revealed that potential kidney recipients had better psychological conditions than the patients on the waiting list. The potential donors showed in avarage even better values than the general population.
